Burgundy Vineyards

We're staying for our second night about 20 kilometers south of Beaune, in a region of Burgundy that has one green vineyard after another.  This was a view shortly after sunset, returning from dinner in a nearby restaurant. 

Our day's outing was to Beaune, for a long visit to the Hôtel-Dieu, or the Hospices de Beaune--a large building which operated as a hospital from the 15th century until the late 20th century, when it was converted into a wonderful museum.  It covers both its own history and the history of French medicine generally, with some art thrown in. Foremost among the art is a large, magnificent altarpiece of the Last Judgement by Rogier van der Weyden.  It is displayed in a generous space with a lovely tapestry, and it is a wonderful experience. I kept thinking of the phrase which Michelin guides use to describe their top choices: "Worth a Journey"--it certainly is.
