Remembering Yifter
At Leicester City, we have 3 rememberance gardens for fans to place plaques for their loved ones.
This particular plaque was placed by the club to remember a fan who was tragically killed in a freak accident on hi way to watch his team play Leicester back in March 2004.
All the fans where walking along the road toward the stadium, it was a very windy day and a freak gust lifted an advertising hoarding, it struck 2 people, injuring one and tragically killing Yifter.
Word very quickly got to the stadium and it was agreed with the family that the match go ahead with a minutes silence before kick-off . This was impeccably observed by all.
The fans did a collection and proceeds went to his family, thousands of cards of condolence where sent to Everton club from Leicester fans.
This plaque was put up by the supporters club.
The late great Bill Shankly was once asked did he think football was a matter of life and death?
His immortal reply was `No laddie, it`s much more than that`
Says it all
