Tribulations
My iPad succumbed to the same infection as Cynthia's, so we set off to a computer service store after breakfast.
Portland has a tri-modal transit system, comprising buses, streetcars (trams), and a light rail called MAX -- presumably an acronymn. I always like to ride on all modes, and the second leg of our trip to the computer place should have been our first streetcar ride -- on the central line. Unfortunately the central line is temporarily closed and the suggested alternate route was so tortuous that we decided to walk.
We got our iPads disinfected quickly, and headed downtown on the MAX train for lunch at the Deschutes brewpub. After we boarded the train it didn't move for 15-20 minutes because the tracks were blocked furher along the route by a train on the main line!
Lunch and the beers at Deschutes were excellent, and the journey back to our apartment was uneventful. I had a longer than usual afternoon nap.
We'd been looking forward to dinner at a little restaurant called Navarre that had a very interesting menu with lots of small plates -- something we always look for. I did not enjoy the experience. The food was fine, but the restaurant didn't seem to be air-conditioned, the chairs were hard and uncomfortable, it was noisy, and I didn't have enough room for my feet.
It was not our best day.
