River Crossing.

Today, I took a stroll along the banks of the river Cam and down to the Mill pond, which is a popular place to picnic, or sit on the wall with a drink from The Mill pub and watch the punts go by. To get across from the river to the pool, the punters disembark and physically carry the boat over the footpath, during which time it is impasssable to walkers and cyclists. The boat is then lowered on rollers set in the ground and gently launched into the water. If you wish to go upriver through Grantchester meadows, the process is reversed. This procedure is quite fun to watch as the punters are often inexperienced tourists, and need to remember 'Gently Does It'
