A Dane in Norway

Pont du Gard

Backstory:
When I was 6 or 7 years old, I was given an illustrated history book about the various ages in European history. Many things caught my eyes, but the image of the aqueduct at Pont du Gard was so ingrained in my mind. With a height of nearly 50 meters, a length of over 120 meter only 6 meters wide it stood as one of the pinnacles of Roman architecture and I promised myself I wanted to see it. It only took me a little more than 30 years to fulfill my promise to myself.

Today:
I was hesitant at first. My first visit to Stonehenge back in 2004 left me a bit disappointed, as I had created this huge image and expectations of the site. Today was nothing like it. It is magnificent in every way. Still sleek and elegant. Still a monument of epic proportions and awe inspiring to it's singular purpose.

So happy right now!
