A quiet moment
This young woman was sitting on the dock at Fulford, looking completely at peace.
Cloud cover today but very muggy. We harvested the rest of the garlic. We harvested the smaller bed last Saturday. Last year it was harvested on July 15, so it's a couple of weeks ahead. There was a double header, which I included as an extra.
I should have mentioned in yesterday's blip that there are some ideas floating around about how the site of the now-demolished Fulford Inn should be used. In a little feature called "Salt Spring Says" in the local paper, these were some suggestions:
- "a drive-in movie theatre"
- "an urban garden"
- "a return to its natural state"
- "a restaurant and pub with a nice outdoor seating area"
- "It's all pipe dreams. At the end of the day, somebody will get a house on a very busy corner."
In the article about the demolition, the building inspector was quoted as saying, "Once the building materials are removed, the site will be thoroughly cleaned and possibly used as a parking area for commuters who use the Fulford-Swartz Bay ferry." While I'm sure commuters would welcome this (because they have to park on the streets now and there isn't much room for cars), it would be a shame for a site with such a lovely view down the harbour to be used as a parking lot. I'll be watching with interest.
