A view from Jeanneb

The Beach

This is our destination. We are here for the week and it is the 6th year we have had the pleasure of visiting.

It is Achnahaird beach on the Coigach peninsula north of Ullapool. The view here is across Enard Bay to Assynt.
The far distant point, just behind the rocks, is the Stoer Lighthouse which can be seen lit at night. We have done a nice walk from there in the past.

We have had a lazy day after yesterday's journey. It was raining at 6.00 am so a cup of tea and read in bed seemed a good idea, after a late breakfast the sun was out and a warm breeze was keeping the midges at bay so a walk on to the beach was called for.

What can't be seen here are the mountains. They are behind me at this point and as you get closer to the beach they disappear out of view, but Suilven in Assynt and the distinctive Coigach mountains of Stac Pollaidh, Cul Beag,  Ben Mor Coigach and Beinn An Eoin. Beyond them in the far distance are the Torridon Mountians further south.  Maybe a blip later in the week.

Walking to the beach there are lots of wild flowers and bog plants. The carnivorous common Butterwort which I haven't seen flowering before is everywhere. Also we saw a number of northern Marsh Orchids.

There are lots of birds in the trees that surround the wee hoose and I enjoyed watching a Mistle Thrush catching its breakfast. It was still at it after our walk and I got a reasonable capture of it with a juicy worm!
