Wandlebury Farewell

Which is what I entitled a very rushed poem I wrote late last night.

Today was all about enjoying time with friends, A bar b que in the afternoon with some of my ex Cambs CC pensions colleagues who were all  made redundant in 2013/14, followed by a gathering and more food and drinks with special friends from Linton.

I've had too much to drink and it is very late. But I must say these are some of the best friends I will ever have. Love them for their loyalty, and will miss them all.

So here is the poem to end our time here......the last I will write in Wandlebury :-(

In 2002 we arrived, a family of 4
One cat, no dogs or ferrets, no chickens at our door
We started to fill up the space, bestowed on us back then,
First Bozli, then came Henry, and later came the hens
We started building memories in our Victorian borrowed home
With friends for drinks around the fire, we knew it was on loan
In springtime we’d admire the snowdrops, the park would really bloom
In summer we’d have camp outs, because we had the room
In Autumn the Halloween event, drew in the crowds with ease
The Rangers pulling out the stops to make it the bees knees
And winter such a pretty place, especially if it snowed
When Jon with his trusty tractor helped cars up the icy road
We grew to love the damp and mould, the loft with wasps and rats
The boiler which broke down each year, became matter of fact
My garden has seen vegetables growing in neat rows
A vine producing tons of grapes, a rambling climbing rose
I asked the kids for memories they’ll remember most of all
They said Morris men dancing, Mollie said the tree festival
Plus bouncing on our trampoline, pond dipping in the park
Guides and outdoor cooking, bat walks after dark
Archery in the garden, beavers cubs and scouts
And being part of Linton, was never in any doubt
The list is really endless; but now we must move away
Our path has been mapped out; it takes us up the Weavers way
We’ll miss our friends and family, but not the bricks and mortar
And so we say a fond farewell, leaving chaos and disorder
Thanks for being part of 20 happy Cambridge years

And celebrate our unknown future, raise your glasses – cheers!
