Wound up in Wexford

The work is done

So we have the final result of Ian's hard work.  The pond is dug, the cascade is created, the meadow is seeded, the bridge built.

One of the few jobs I did yesterday (whilst W was away at a conference) was to sneakily plant the Gunnera, and today Ian came and planted the rest of the pond and bog plants.  We have a wonderful variety of plants to encourage wildlife.

It does, of course, look rather bare at the moment, but we are assured that by the autumn it should be looking good, and that next spring will be a delight.

We have already had visits from dragonflies, one of which (according to Ian) was laying eggs.  Hopefully the frogs and toads will follow - there are plenty of slugs and snails (currently wreaking havoc amongst our hostas) for them to have a feast.

There are no precious fish in the pond, so we will also gladly welcome visits from Mr Heron - provided he doesn't stick his sharp beak through our pond liner.

Unfortunately, almost as soon as I got home, it started to rain - which is good for the garden, but not so good for my photography efforts.
