Guinea Pig Zero

On The Avenue

This was one of my neighborhood's "Dollar Strolls," which has merchants selling things for a buck on the sidewalks. Music is performed as well, often by whichever locals decide to grab their instrument and have fun with it.

The young man and his little brother were there drumming and dancing, and the piper walked arrived as he moved along Baltimore Avenue to play at different spots.  The pair spontaneously played some wonderful home cooked jazz for about fifteen minutes.

The music reminded me of South Indian wedding music that I saw performed in my college days in Andhra Pradesh, a very fast and frantic combination of a reed instrument and a drum.  I had a tape of some of it for many years, but now it's just an old memory, lacking the correct terms and details.

It rained, but many had brought an umbrella or simply didn't mind.

See the extra pix: My favorite is the cat selling $1 neck scratches to a woman whose clothing matches his fur.
