A rare sight.
Last week I blipped A Great Banded Grayling side view showing the underneath of the wing. At the time my expert butterfly friends told me that it was very rare to be able to photograph this butterfly with its wings open. Today was my lucky day so look well at the beauty you will not see too often.
Today has been our hottest day so far with the temp. Going over 30c. The forecast is for a possible 38c. By the middle of next week. The pleasure of walking up on open hillsides looking for rare species begins to fade a little. So perhaps it is as well that tomorrow morning we leave for the three day journey back to the cooler climbs of Cumbria.
My extra today rounding off the butterfly collection is a Skipper. The precise one is still under investigation. Thanks to all the butterfly enthusiasts for their generous comments. It has been a lot of fun.
