The Church of St Michael, Nanclars
This church was restored during the last year with a total grant of 900,000 euros from various sources.
The church was built between the 9th and 12th centuries.
Originally, from 852 a.d. Until 1662 it was a small priory, an offshoot of the Benidictine Abbey of Saint Cybard, near Angouleme.
The church is properly oriented towards the rising sun. It is classified as a Historic Monument by the Beaux Arts de France, and is an original example of the Romanesque style of Angoumois.
Today's blip is of the secondary altar where the priest would say mass for the pilgrims en route to St Jacques-de-Compostella, before they set out on the next stage of their journey.
