What else?
It's totally appropriate for this trip journal--a trip to do this kind of yoga with these specific teachers (esp. Prashant)--NOT to include any photos of me doing yoga. So you get this picture of me walking through the park. The yoga journey is away from the picture-perfect presentation of asana toward the still undiscovered terrain inside. That is not to say I have not seen plenty of impressive poses, both for the Yoga Day presentations and during practice.
The way that Abhi and Raya practice together is inspiring and joyful. The other day Geeta sat on the stage giving instructions to Raya on ways to help Abhi hop out of a backbend into full-arm balance. When he didn't get it, Geeta got up and did it herself--holding Abhi around the hips, putting her thigh against Abhi's chest, rocking back and forth, then saying, "Go." Well, I think it was "go." They spoke in Marathi. Whatever it was, it got results. There were smiles all around.
Even though Mr. Iyengar is not there practicing in the hall anymore, he's definitely there in spirit and in all his photos that hang on the walls. It's very common for teachers, including Geeta, Abhi, and Raya, to stop class, point to a photo, and say something like, "That's what you're supposed to be doing."
