I don't take kindly to fettling about with the innards of laptops - there are many sensitive items held within most of which if broken are not cheap to replace - and with today's throw-away market this generally means it would have been for the bin.

However, with a bit of TLC and a new cable courtesy of eBay Magnus is once again back with the living. He should go on for a few more years as there are now even less moving parts to go wrong. Now, if only I could replace that fan with a large copper finned heatsink we'd be sorted. But with limited space within the chassis that ain't gonna happen.
