Footprint

Yesterday the big girl was working out our environmental footprint using an online calculator as they had been doing at school. Someone in her class had a footprint that would require the resources of 7 Earths to sustain! She said the average seemed to be about 3 Earths. Ours was 2.1, which is good until you remember we only have one Earth. 

Of course, one of the questions was how much electricity you use and what percentage of it is 'green'. I would love for us to be using much more green energy. Solar and wind sources are great! They say that coal own this country, however. Legislation to reduce the renewable energy target from 41,000 kilowatt hours to 33,000 kilowatt hours passed both houses of parliament yesterday. 

The Guardian, at least, is taking all this stuff seriously...
