Muttley's Musings

A Tender Moment

I had a long weekend back in Yorkshire, and on Friday I visited Bempton with Mum and Dad to see the birds. There were loads of birds, and your could see various chicks on the nests of Kittiwakes, and some Guillemots, and various sized Gannet chicks which were massive balls of fluff with vicious beaks sticking out. We also saw some nests which still had eggs being kept warm by their parents.

We did also see some Puffins, but they were a bit more elusive, and according to the wardens this is because they are not as social as the other birds in the colony, tending to prefer their own company, so it is harder to spot individual birds amongst the mass of birds clinging on to the cliff face.

I particularly like this moment of tenderness between two Gannets. According to the wardens, the Gannets mate for life, and you can see their bonding in this picture.

I have added a couple of extras.
