Great Spotted Woodpecker.
As we were just finishing our dinner last night we saw a very welcome visitor alight on our bird nut feeder. It was a real surprise because, as I've mentioned before, birds seem to ignore our garden since the appearance of the Sparrowhawks last year.
Obviously the Woodpecker was not intimidated because it stayed for at least five minutes, really tucking in.
This morning as I was having an early breakfast it (I'm assuming it was the same bird) arrived again and stayed even longer, enabling me to fetch a camera and take a few shots. His visit even encouraged one or two tits to call in so let's hope things are going to return to normal so far as our garden birds are concerned.
