Lilia and I were paired for the first practical exercise – “portray emotion”. We’d never met before and, apart from the usual workshop introductions, knew nothing of each other's background.

I wasn’t really getting anything that I was happy with; until I asked her to tell me what she was thinking...

Back at the gallery, we were asked to share a few images from the exercise. Kate, the workshop leader thought Lilia’s changing expressions would make an interesting contact sheet approach. Indeed.
