Caol Rhuadh Scottish Sculpture Park
A dull day with almost constant smir.
Mid morning we drove round towards Colintraive to visit the Scottish Sulpture Park at Caol Ruadh.
As the website says "Caol Ruadh (pronounced ‘col ru’) is tucked away on the Kyles of Bute on Argyll’s secret coast, is a unique outdoor gallery promoting and selling contemporary sculpture created in Scotland".
Accompanied by Maeve the Deerhound we walked round the garden grounds on the shore of the Kyles seeking out and enjoying looking at the sculptures which are placed in the grounds. Some are very obvious, some less so and hidden away in groves of trees and shrubs.
We drove back round to Millhouse, which is a very small village just inland from Kames and nearer the ferry post of Portavadie (where a ferry runs to Tarbert in mid Argyll). We had lunch at the Barn cafe and then drove round the loop (single track) road past Kilbride church and through the Ardlamont estate past the cottage where we stayed two years ago (now being rebuilt and combined with the cottage adjoining) to Carry Farm and back to Kames.
In the evening we drove round to Tighnabruaich and along to the Wellpark Hotel where Maeve waited in the car while we had dinner.
Extra images ... sculptures and a view to place the grounds in their location near the ferry from Colintraive to Rhobodach.
