On top of the world
I've never started a walk so late in the day, but the eve of the summer solstice is a pretty good date on which to break the early start habit. Cloud cover from breakfast, until well after lunch, seemed to be making the prospect of getting up Skiddaw less and less likely, but when things began to improve, the decision was made. Nothing ventured ...
What a treat, to be up on Longside Edge, between Ullock Pike and Long Side in the glorious, evening sunshine. Everywhere I looked screamed to be photographed. Of course I haven't done it justice. Spirits well and truly soaring, and full of beans, the walk back down, with four Wainwright summits added to my list, was close to perfect.
