Shut Eye...
...is exactly what we'll not be getting tonight.
I (Annie) realised last year that I was very unfit. I also realised it had been a slow slide to sluggishness since my late teens, when I started having real trouble with my knees. Instead of doing something about it, I'd spent nearly 20 years ignoring it and getting lazy. Last year I gave in, went to the doctor and the specialist he referred me to fixed the majority of my knee pain in around a week and a half. Great - but slightly annoying after 20 years!
I've been trying to reclaim some of my health since. I wanted to sign up for an event to aim for, and being banned from running I picked cycling.
So... Tonight at half past midnight Chris and I start the London Nightrider, a 100km night cycle ride through London. 100km. Night. No sleep. What on earth was I thinking? 12 hours to go until we start and I'm feeling tired already. :)
On the plus side, we've raised £900 for Cancer Research. As both of my parents died because of cancer this fundraising is pure genetic selfishness on my part - my odds don't look great.
Think of us as you get up for a leisurely Sunday morning - we will still be going. Poor Chris is doing it to keep me company, and has to cycle far slower with me than he would otherwise.
See you on the other side!
PS. Since when did my eye look so baggy? ;)
