Great Balls of Fire

A huge thanks to MCN for sending Fran to the ANZ Netball Championship Grand Final where the QLD Firebirds took on the NSW Shifts at Boondall Entertainment Centre.

The atmosphere in the stadium peaked and troughed as the Firebirds were consistently behind and fighting the entire game to not let the goal difference slip past 5 goals.

However, in the last dying minutes, the Firebirds caught up to the Swifts to be back on centre pass, and against all odds, the Firebirds GA who had been missing all game, sank a long-range goal to put the Firebirds in front for the first time with 20 seconds to go.

In a nailbiter, it was the Swifts' centre pass in the last dying SECONDS, however a brilliant intercept from GK Laura Geitz saw the ball back in the Firebirds' possession, and securing their 1-point goal lead over the Swifts. The full-time buzzer went and it was stacks on by the Firebirds, celebrating an amazing win against all odds.

The Swifts have never won in QLD and they were so close to making history, until the Firebirds stole the Championship!! Congrats to the Firebirds and GO QLD!!!
