A moment's respite ...

With winter arriving with a slap and a bang (gale force winds and thunder), we are thankful for the rain that has fallen.
Early this morning it looked as if the sun was never going to show its face again, yet, roundabout 10.30, there was a moment's respite and it opened up a little.
The image, close to my home, shows what the mountains looked like at that time - we expected to see some fine powdery white on the peaks, but have not yet spotted any tell tale signs that gives reason to the cold conditions.

In the meantime, Mr J, together with James (our son), Heinrich and Chris (two sons-in-law) and Arrie (a friend) has crossed the border into Botswana early this morning. On their way the temperature outside was -1*C, but fortunately they are prepared for chilly conditions.

For the next ten days, they will be visiting the Kalahari, Game Parks and National Parks whilst the women folk decided to keep the home fires (literally so) burning, this time.
They have left in two 4X4 vehicles as most of the traveling will be on gravel roads of which the conditions can be doubtful. Stocked to the brim with everything that may be needed, we wish them a happy tour of that beautiful country.

According to their itinerary, tonight they will camp at Khutse Game Reserve (in tents - yes there are lion and elephant! NOt to mention that it is winter in the Kalahari ..), close to the Mahurushele Pan.
