Oxshott Heath
Finally got to Oxshott Heath today. I like to go on Julia's bench on her birthday but events overtook and it was a couple of weeks late this year. Am unlikely to make it up again any time soon as the journey will be a couple of hours once we have moved.
I still don't understand my desire to do this as it is not ' my thing'. At Julia's insistence we had Dad's name inscribed in a Memorial Book, which she visited every year for the first few years after his death. I never went and Mum went only once, because Julia wanted her to. It is this desire of Julia's to honour in some way the people not with us that makes me do it for her.
Her ashes were scattered on Oxshott Heath and just in front of the tree, her husband had this bench placed. Mr Lala and I took Dog and travelled up. We sat for a while on the bench and my brother and nephew joined us. We walked the dogs, caught up on each other's news and parted company.
Called in at eldest son's for Mr Lala to pick up a Father's Day gift on the way back, then out to dinner.
A good day for remembering.
