The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Garden Scarcities

It is fascinating to note the difference between this garden and the garden we once had in Llantwit Fardre. For starters for the first year and a half living here we had no birds other than the odd Dunnock and a load of Jackdaws. This of course all changed last year when they started arriving at the start of Springwatch 2014. Since then we have had a steady stream of birds in the garden. House Sparrows are the most frequent. Every so often we gain a new couple of regulars.

We rarely get Blackbirds in the summer in the garden. We have a male who is in and out regularly, but we do get a few in winter. Believe it or not Robins are a real rarity, but there has been one on the feeders back and forth for about a week now.

We had a brief period last year where we had a couple of Greenfinches visiting, and that was it. We have a a rather resplendent resident male at the moment.

They were constant visitors in the Llantwit Fardre garden, with several turning up at once. Here, a real scarcity. To restore the balance, I must see Bullfinches far more regularly here than I did when I lived near the woods.

When you feed garden birds you just never know what you are going to get.
