Lenabo Airship Base built 1915 closed in 1920.
I visited this site with the Great Northern Scottish Railway Association. for the Base had had its own railway. An odd but highly enjoyable day of people's excitment over remnants of the several lines which are long gone.
All that is left of Lenabo are several huge concrete bases of hangars,The massive doors one was 32 m by 46 m. Hidden in the grass were dozens of tethering rings, deep hostile pits (gas was made on site) and of course the hints of the railway track.
A sad fact: in 1920 the first fatal car accident in the Peterhead area occurred when the once a week train on the rail line to the base hit a car.
