Aratiatia Dam / Rapids
On my way out of Taupo this morning I stopped at the Aratiatia Dam. Been here hundreds of times and am still fascinated by it as an adult.
They open the dam three times a day and you can go to various vantage points and watch.
This morning I was fascinated by the reflections on the concrete walkway.
That and the fact that there were two signs at the side of the road, that said "do not cross the road". It reminded me of those really bad "Why did the chicken cross the road" jokes.
What got to me about the signs, was that no less than about 15 metres away, you were more than happily encouraged to cross over the road, to view the dam fom either side of the road.
Apparently the signs have been put up, is an area where some people have been nearly wiped out by trucks coming down the road. So why do the signs not stipulate, due not cross the road here due to heavy machinery. Just wondering.
