a little bit of rhubarb

Argyle Cut, The Rocks

Very happy to see 5.30 Friday afternoon roll around.

Friday night turned out to be a session in the Paragon, and after clambering up onto the bar stools I felt I had more than earned a medicinal drink of gin and tonic.

(Public service announcement: Paragon bar staff, getting oneself onto a bar stool should not be an athletic feat fit to qualify for the high-jump at Olympic level. Please rectify this situation immediately! That is all.)

Surprisingly quiet and laid back in the pub, with comfortingly daggy 1970s and 1980s music; lots of Britpop and New Romantics and even "Blame it on the Boogie." The most recent was Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's" Boom, Shake the Room".****

After copious amounts of alcohol and carb-laden pub food, it was decided an outing to the Argyle Cut was in order, to inspect the sunflower light installation. Once there, we just stood around and cooed "oooh"and "aaaaahhhh!"at various intervals as the flowers bloomed and faded and bloomed again.

That kept us busy for quite some time. We also managed to annoy more professional-looking photographers who were wielding flashy big DSLRs and all the trimmings. We weren't carrying tripods or wearing trenchcoats, so we clearly didn't fit in.

Eventually found ourselves at the Friday night markets at the Rocks, where every stall was offering food designed to appeal to people who've had a teensy bit too much to drink.

Oooh, churros!"

Oooh, pancakes!"

"Hot chips!"

"Oh look! Corncobs on a stick!""

and so on and so forth. Somehow, by the time we reached the end of the markets, I had managed to mysteriously acquire a licorice strap so I ate the evidence before anyone noticed.

Home very late.
