Sarabi
Sarabi absolutely ripped it up at Oye this evening and what a treat it was to be there. More than once I've said on here that Africa Oye is probably the best annual event put on in Liverpool and the fact it is free is remarkable. It always kicks up a surprise or two and today was no exception. I think the Gods smile on Oye - it was pissing down this morning and still at lunchtime when I arrived on site. But somehow the rain clouds realised they weren't welcome and by mid-afternoon the sun was out and the park was rammed.
To say the earlier bands were good damns them with faint praise, but that's really what it is once Sarabi started to do their thing. The rhythm was arresting, the energy being that of a 3 year old and then the bass kicked in and nearly broke all my ribs. It was magical and it proved once again why I love Oye so much. And there's more tomorrow.
Just brilliant.
