Dusk on Salisbury Plain
An early start today to get up to London. I normally enjoy the 20 minute walk to the train station if I'm heading up to town, though today the horizontal rain first thing made me think the car was the better bet! An hour or two in the pub after work for a couple of drinks and the train back. The best bit about train journeys is that it gives a change for a couple of hours solid reading...
And then today's challenge - dusk. I was thinking about this on the way back on the train and thought that a great sky over Stonehenge could look spectacular with some lovely soft light. Today the weather gods weren't offering that and my attempt looked very flat and washed out. After a bit of wondering the footpaths I spotted some interesting sky over a couple of the tumuli south of the main site.
So to the technical bit... I'd always assumed that dusk was a fairly generic term, but it has a 'proper' meaning. Apparently twilight is the time from sunset to when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon. Below 6 degrees becomes dusk. Stonehenge was in twilight from 9.20 to 10.06 this evening. This photo was taken at about 10.20 - so it's a proper dusk shot :-) Long exposures give some movement in the sky.
Being out in the countryside that late was wonderful - still light enough to see the footpaths and loads of fresh air to blow out the muck of London.
