Hector's House

A weird advert I saw in the vet's this morning - I think if your dog looked anything like this you'd definitely be in the right place! Luckily Hector just had a bit of eczema on his tail and it's clearing up nicely...

Potential new favourite band alert! Been listening to the new album by Crocodiles quite a bit over the last few days - it's a nice mix of shoegazey, Spectorish, Mary-Chain fuzz and epic, Glasvegas stomp. It's called 'Endless Flowers' (though the best song title has to be 'My Surfing Lucifer') and whilst I presumed it was a debut it's apparently their third album. That said, there's a gleeful, youthful exuberance about it that means they don't sound anywhere near as scuzzy as I think they might be aiming for but which gives the best songs a really nice soaring quality. I'd better check out the back catalogue!

Went to see Ken Loach's latest, 'The Angel's Share', last night at Broadway and really enjoyed it. Sometimes I find his films a bit, you know, 'worthy' (you can see why they love him at so much at Cannes as he's the epitome of a certain kind of 'socially aware' British cinema...) but this is kind of like a more lighthearted version of 'Trainspotting' without the class A's and with much less to unnerve the Scottish Tourist Board though it's still gritty and moving enough when it comes to the realistic prospects for much of Glasgow's youth. Recommended.
