On the gate into the Dove Cottage garden hangs a piece of slate with the following words based on William Wordworth’s poem ‘To a Butterfly’.

Stop here

Whenever you are weary

And rest

as in a sanctuary.

The garden looked inviting and I would have loved a rest but needed to get the last mile walked, then home to cut the front lawn and cook a meal. Another day perhaps. 

A cloudy afternoon but lots of flowers in gardens, fields and hedgerows on the walk brightened things up.
