THE BROWN ADDER

Such a treat to find this baby adder on the track we were walking. It was tiny - it would easily have fitted in the palm of a hand - though none of us tried, and a great start to a very wildlife-filled week. The extra is a skylark chick which was so very well hidden in a hollow in the ground beside the road.

We ended the day by coming third in a quiz in the lovely community pub a couple of villages away along the dale, and then winning £40 in the raffle, which we went back and spent on a great meal a few days later.
