Monstera deliciosa

This is the trunk of my very old Monstera deliciosa,  What you are seeing are the scars left after its huge leaves die off each season.  The lowest leaves yellow and drop while the new growth springs further up the stem.  It does flower, but only for a day or so and the flower is quite banana like in its shape and appearance.  Not sure if it can be eaten, but with a name like that, one would hope it might be palatable.
Today we have had constant rain for the first time in months.  It is such a relief, but most of the water is lying on top of the hard soil.  Hopefully it will gradually soak in.  I tried to take a photo of the pouring rain overflowing our guttering, but don't have much idea how this should be done.  Love seeing it so much I have posted it in extras and welcome any advice on how this could better be approached with my Panasonic digital.
