I told this wee fly if it posed nicely I'd take it's picture.  I like its green eyes.  

I've been picking up what others say here about extension tubes and suddenly remembered I had a set.  I got them out in a spare moment and tried them without much success.  Then, horror of horrors, I realised that I could not get them detached from my precious macro lens.  I tried everything, the Professor tried everything, I searched the internet looking for answers and tried to contact the manufacturers for instructions.  Finally, I found the answer on a forum. Whew!  I had visions of having to saw them off.   Anyway, this is a long way round of asking for advice on extension tubes.  Worth having?  Any you would recommend for a Nikon D310?  Do they make any difference if you already have a macro lens? The cheap ones I had were, frankly, shite. 

I'm shattered today as most of last night I was tracking the progress of my favourite Canadian grandson across the prairie, tundra, Greenland and North Atlantic.  He's here now and it is just magic to have him.  He was detained a short while by the UK Border Agency as there is new EU legislation not allowing under 18s to enter the country on their own without evidence of bona fide people meeting them.  It's an anti-child trafficking procedure we knew nothing about. He didn't have my mobile number, so had to be escorted out to meet us by a rather nice official.  Poor lad, for a moment he thought he was going to be sent back to Canada!
