Today's Thoughts

Fun Day

I had a lovely walk at Stanley Park with one of my best friends. The weather was perfect in the early afternoon, sunny with a light breeze, and not too hot. The park was by a bay, so the breeze carried the briny smell of the ocean. The bridge in the picture leads to a local naval reserve division, the HMCS Discovery, that was created during WWII to recruit and train military personnel. Today, it is still used as a training facility, and:

1. Serves as the base for two cadet corps,
2. Is the location of the Naval Museum of Vancouver and the Vancouver Naval Veterans Association,
3. Coordinates port inspection diving teams in the Western Canada region, and
4. Hosts foreign vessels that visit the Port of Vancouver.

During the 2010 Winter Olympics, it also served as the Olympic Maritime Operations Centre.

I never knew until I Goolged! Funnily enough, the picture I took does not actually have the division building in it, only the bridge that leads to it, haha...
