Wide Angle Wednesday: Corner

This week's Wide Angle Wednesday is hosted by Osuzanna.

This is my favourite corner, if you can have such a thing.  The corner of Folly Way and Castle Hill, Maidenhead. 

Before 1859 Castle Hill was called Folly Hill, named after the folly that once stood across the road from the Windsor Castle Public House, once the Fleece Inn.  The Public house was reportedly renamed after its view of Windsor Castle on a clear day (now sadly no longer visible).  It's thought that the road changed its name around the same time as the pub.

In 1890 the road's name became the inspiration for Lord Desborough's castle-like folly that was built using burnt bricks from Cooper's Kiln in Pinkney's Green.  I love the fact that Folly Way has retained its name over the years and is in some way a nod to the past.
