Rows of these bright rental boats are lined up on the wharf. The winch lowers them to the water right next to the little platform that is meant as a dock, but is used mostly by the sea lions as their own private living room. 

Mornings have been grey and cool: I walk in my light down jacket and a wool knit hat. This afternoon when I went to visit a friend in the nearby mountains it was 93 at her place in the redwoods. I was in sandals and a tank top. There is no such thing as packing away your "winter clothes"--our weather changes on a dime.
