Schlossed Out

Today, a trip on the train to Potsdam.

We got off at the station for Park Sanssoucci, and headed for the park itself. Loads of renovation going on around the Neues Palais, a very large edifice. We then headed eastwards through the parkland, spending quite a bit of time at the excellent botanical gardens run by the University of Potsdam. Then to Schloss Sanssouci (translates as "without a care"), Frederick the Great's summer palace. A fabulous place - I don't normally like the Baroque or Rococco styles, but Old Fritz had real taste so it is over the top but in a really restrained and tasteful way.

I like the gilded cobweb in this ceiling decoration. And lots more besides. I have added a view inside the adjacent picture gallery which Frederick had built to showcase his old masters (18th century one upmanship).
