Hannibal Swan !

Hannibal was the name given to a male swan near Pembroke Castle, who attacked as many as 37 other swans, killing 15 of them. Some time ago we had a similar aggressive swan named Mr ASBO, here on the Cam in Cambridge, who was moved upriver, and it seems this could be one of his offspring. Hannibal attacked any swan who ventured into his territory and would beat them with his wings, bite them and kick them. Then he would hold them under water until they drowned, which is what this swan was doing in my extra picture.Luckily this poor swan didn't drown but eventually managed to swim off in the opposite direction. This area is usually  a gathering place for many swans as it is by the pub gardens where a lot of tit-bits can be found. Today there were just these two and finally only one. I was up on the bridge and really surprised and a bit sad to see this. The swan that was set upon seemed quite thin compared to the other one. I suppose it's nature's survival of the fittest. The extra is not very sharp as I had to be quick.
