Enjoy it while you can

These two houses are due to be demolished to make way for a small residential development. The houses themselves are probably not a huge loss really, but developers are notorious for taking down every tree in sight, just in case they might get in the way of some machine or truck or something.
This old oak tree ought to be 'protected', but I don't know if it is. At probably around 100 years old, it's pretty young for an oak, but it would take 100 years to replace it.
I don't like its chances. There has been rather a lot of arbitrary tree removal going on around here lately. Any excuse. You'd think people didn't realise that we need trees if we want to continue breathing.
Oh yeah. They don't.
