Improvising
The lettuces need shade during the hot afternoons we've been having, so with the little polytunnel that G built a few years ago, a shade screen, and a couple of old sheets, we've improvised ways to keep them cool. We cover the polytunnel with plastic to use as a mini-greenhouse in fall and spring. A couple of old clear plastic shower curtains worked well this spring, although G has used a roll of plastic in the past.
Yesterday afternoon, I glanced out the kitchen window and saw the first baby deer to appear this year. The young buck and squirrel were also out, so I tried to get a few quick photos of them. Three extras today. Nice to have wildlife so close to our home. Nice to have the garden fenced so they can't get into it!
