Carpet washing pools of Tahmela

OK, I promised to Technophobe to blip the finnish traditional way of washing carpets outdoors. Earlier we had our carpet washing platforms on shores of the lakes, but in then the pool system took their place in early 2000's - for environmental reasons..

I wonder if this is a finnish habbit only???

In the evening there is nobody anymore washing, but pools are there of course - they are here throughout the year, always in use from 15.5. until early september (in Tampere anyway).

This is free of cost facility for the citizens.

Pools are there on the left, usually pools are made of steel or concrete. There is strong motorized water pump (in the hut near the pools) that brings fresh water straight from the lake to the taps of the pools. The greywater goes to municipal water purification, not straight to the lake anymore.

You have to bring your own brush and soap (we usually use pine-oil-soap as it works best in cold water, and is environmentally best choice).

After you have washed your carpets here, and of course rised them too, you carry your carpet one by one to the butt roller (which it is near camera on the right.) Then you wring your carpets once of twice and let them dry here of take them home to dry...

Some carpet is back there hanging on the woods, drying in the wind. You can maybe imagine fresh pinesoap and clean carpets scent?!

Of course many finns wash their carpets in laundries too. But this the traditional way.

Please, tell me, how do you wash your carpets?!?!
