Water Wigs!
Today we drove to Naarden (see map) to see a photographic exhibition. Naarden is a 'star fort' town, with fortified walls and a moat (all renovated). There are three such towns in The Netherlands.
The exhibition was in many of the old tunnels, but also around the town and in the church and the Town Hall. We did not manage the Town Hall one, as it was up in the attic. T has blisters on her heels from wearing posh shoes but having to walk miles unexpectedly the other night and my knees are rusting up.
The theme of the exhibition this year was 'Water'. A lot of photos were rather depressing ones about flooding all over the world, and an alarming multimedia presentation about rising sea levels. But the ones we liked best of all were the 'water wig' ones - water balloons burst over people's heads and captured with a high speed flash. It was in the church, and you can see the windows reflected. Check out Tim Tadders. He's worth it.

There are so many healthy old folk in Holland - you see them whizzing around on bikes all the time. Most of the people I have met (T &W's friends) are older, and still have parents alive well into their 90s. T's mother died only recently, aged 101!
Today I learned that when you reach 100, not only do you get a letter from the King and the local Mayor (who will also come to your party!), but you get a bench dedicated to you and you can choose where to put it (within reason)... What a nice tradition!
