Stavanger

A sunny Sunday morning with blue skies and a biting cold wind. Temp about 10 degrees C. Suitably dressed we headed off for a trip to see the Cathedral built between 1100 and 1150 (closed for renovations), an Iron Age farm and old Stavanger, a collection of wooden houses. These houses built in the 18th &19th century and considered national heritage monuments, even though they are still occupied. They have quaint well-tended gardens and are served by cobbled streets. (I assume the residents don’t have cars as there was no parking areas.

There was a beach volley ball tournament taking place this week and temp courts were dotted along the quay side. The crowd watching one of the games in the temporary stadium gave us a wave as we departed this afternoon.

This city, 4th biggest in Norway has a thriving local oil industry. There were numerous support vessels and related industries dotted about the waterfront.

We have now sailed for Olden.
