The subtle beauty of moorland plantlife.
Walking from Butterstone to Blairgowrie in a loop up past Loch Benachally to join the Cateran Trail near Woodhill proved more challenging than expected: tall heather, cattle-churned bog and deer fences.
Plus lowering cloud levels which obliterated what we knew must be a wonderful view.
The tiny, intensely-colourful flowers and less obviously flamboyant mosses and lichens were the reward.
