One species each day (from my backyard)
On another relatively mild evening after what had probably been a wild and windy day for butterflies, I found this exhausted, battered and lost Danaus plexippus (Monarch butterfly) resting on a branch in my backyard. I had been away to Geraldine again, this time for the first birthday of my second grandson. It had been a cold night after a strong but brief Southerly passed our part of the South Island. Although the morning sky showed signs of a Nor'westerly, it didn't warm up as quickly as I thought it would; Geraldine's climate is different from what I'm used to, but in the afternoon there were several 'warm' gusts of wind. And on the way back home at night I noticed people in singlets and T-shirts suggesting that it had been a typical warm Nor'westerly day.
Someone on the Blipfoto forum suggested to take a screen shot if I wanted to post an 'old favourite' here. I found changing the camera date easier.
