A684

A few years ago, I had a client who was based just north of Harrogate. Our first meetings were held in Harrogate but on a couple of occasions it was more convenient for me to go to his house. It was coming back from there that I first discovered the A684. The road passes through stunning countryside and every few miles there is another quaint town or village.

Last year, I made a handful of visits to another client, this time in Northallerton, giving me another excuse to use the road, and today I used it to travel to see a potential client situated just south of Leyburn.

The weather has been glorious all day and I enjoyed every minute of the drive across. The meeting went really well and, consequently, it was quite a bit shorter than anticipated, so it wasn't long before I was heading home again, feeling relaxed and happy.

There were so many places I wanted to stop and photograph but there were a limited number of opportunities to pull over. But a layby presented itself just as I was passing this panorama. Right in the middle of the photo is what some subsequent research suggests to me might be the Castle Bolton. I'm keen to come back and visit the whole area, and popping across to the castle is on my to do list. What I'd really love is three or four days up here with the Minx, travelling across the A684, stopping in a different village each night. The only trouble is that I can't trust on many days when the weather will be as perfect as it was today!
