All change?

This has been quite a day. The General Synod of the SEC took the first decisive step towards permitting the church marriage of same-sex couples. Big change. But as was pointed out in the debate, we were discussing our attitudes to change in a church building that had already undergone a transformation that many - myself included - find difficult.

I sang in St Paul's and St George's many years ago when it was as it had been designed. It was soaring and lovely. Now it's an abortion of steel girders and balconies; blocked-off windows and plinths and platforms and stage lighting. It holds more people and in terms of numbers is wildly successful. It's not my kind of church. But today good things happened here.
