Skegness and the Jolly Fisherman....

We went to the Beachcomber this morning and then around to Fantasy Island for a walk around the market that was there, bought a few nick knacks  and then over to Skeggi and this was the Old Norse name for Skegness where we went onto the Pier again and then a walk around the the town and found this lovely Bronze Statue of The Jolly Fisherman, the local iconic representation of this Seaside place.
The original Jolly Fisherman Poster (or Jolly as he's affectionately known as_ and its accompanying slogan is probably the most famous holiday advertisement ever drawn. It has been circulated hundreds of times in almost every newspaper in the land, and the dancing salt has been imitated by thousands of visitors. John Hassall drew the picture in 1908. It had been commissioned by the Great Northern Railway Company and for this masterpiece he received twelve guineas, he died in 1948 penniless.
